Emotional and Mental Wellness with Dr. Benjamin Perkus

Topic 1: Optimize Brain Function with Essential Oils

The brain is the most complex organ in the body and one that can be thrown out of balance through poor nutrition, stress, toxins, and a sedentary lifestyle. More and more people today report problems with memory, focus, and difficulty learning. Children need more support than ever to make it through school, and as adults age they often lose some of the sharpness that they need. We will discuss some of the ways that the brain is affected by problems in the modern lifestyle and what we can do about it. You will learn specific essential oil protocols which may help support proper brain function, as well as dietary and lifestyle modifications that will help you perform at your mental best.

Topic 2: Essential Oils for Emotional Trauma

Psychologists have long recognized the devastating role trauma can play in emotional development as well as day to day functioning. Early trauma negatively affects personality development and can lead to a host of problems later in life. Adult-age trauma can be equally devastating and difficult to overcome, even with psychotherapy. Fortunately essential oils offer a promising path for creating balance in the wake of trauma, as they can quickly and profoundly affect mental states through their direct action on the limbic system of the brain. We will discuss both "big" and "little" traumas and you will learn ways to incorporate essential oils for healing from trauma in both self-care as well as clinical care settings.

Topic 3: Essential Oils to Enhance Meditation

Whether you use meditation to reduce stress, increase focus, or find inner guidance, you may not be aware that essential oils can be used to enhance the effectiveness of your practice. Aromas have been used for millenia as part of rituals, prayer and meditation, usually in the form of incense. Now modern distillation methods allow for precise delivery of the active compounds of essential oils directly to the brain without the need for smoke and incense. This results in a clean and reliable way to shift levels of consciousness and more quickly move to desired states of being. Meditation with essential oils can be used as part of a regular practice to bring peace and greater awareness. The role of imagery and music will also be discussed as they apply to meditation.
